Misaq Kazimi is a documentary director and producer based in Los Angeles. He has a masters degree from the College of Fine Arts at San Diego State University, and fifteen years of experience in the media space.

Kazimi’s first feature-length documentary, “16 Days in Afghanistan,” screened at several universities, the British Museum and recommended by Penguin books in a study guide on Afghanistan.

In 2012, he distributed director Mohsen Makhmalbaf’s film “The Gardener” across American theaters, leading it to an Oscar® consideration.

Kazimi founded and curated the Dawn Breakers Int’l Film Festival, nominated by MovieMaker magazine as a top ‘Social Cause Film Festival’.

In 2015, a media startup Kazimi founded received venture capital funding from Boomtown Accelerators, placing him among the top 1% of entrepreneurs in the US who receive venture capital.

In 2016, Kazimi was a founding member at World Is One News, India’s first global news channel, where he led the network’s distribution strategy, setting it up to become one of the world’s most viewed news channels on Youtube.

In 2018, he created a documentary series in virtual reality in partnership with Facebook.

Kazimi’s recent projects include directing Steadfast, a historical film told through dance; producing Artists of LA, a short form documentary series; and leading Balance Now, a nonprofit aiming at increasing diversity and inclusion in media.

Kazimi was born in Kabul and raised in California.
