Misaq Kazimi is a documentary director and producer based in Los Angeles. He has a masters degree from the College of Fine Arts at San Diego State University, and fifteen years of experience in the media space.
Kazimi’s recent projects include directing Art & Soul, a docu-series on a Los Angeles based mural artist; directing Steadfast, a historical film told through dance; producing Artists of LA, a short-form series highlighting Los Angeles-based artists, and leading Balance Now, a nonprofit that uses media for social justice.
In 2007, he produced his first feature-length documentary, “16 Days in Afghanistan,” which screened at several universities, the British Museum and is a recommended film by Penguin books in a study guide on Afghanistan.
Kazimi founded and curated the Dawn Breakers Int’l Film Festival, nominated by MovieMaker magazine as a top ‘Social Cause Film Festival’.
In 2012, he distributed world cinema director Makhmalbaf’s film “The Gardener” in US theaters, leading it to multiple festival screenings and an Oscar® consideration.
In 2015, a media startup he founded received venture capital funding from Boomtown Accelerators, placing him among the top 1% of founders in the US who receive venture capital.
Internationally, Kazimi was a founding member and managing producer at at World Is One News, India’s first global news channel. He also served as a strategy director for India’s version of TED Talks and directed a documentary series in VR in partnership with Facebook.
Kazimi was born in Kabul and raised in California.
