Knowledge

What is Knowledge?

Plato argued that anything considered knowledge must meet three criteria. It must be:

  1. Justified,
  2. True &
  3. Believed

Abdu’l-Baha divided knowledge into two kinds::

  1. Subjective knowledge
  2. Objective knowledge

Subjective Knowledge is gained from the reflection and observation of things around us and Objective knowledge is the “knowledge of being” and is intuitive.

If that be the case, what type of knowledge do Manifestations/prophets posses & does it meet Plato’s criteria?

Here is a start

Characterization in “Water for Elephants”

Water for Elephants (2011) is Francis Lawrenc’s third feature film. The purpose of this quick review is not to comment on all aspects of the film, but simply highlight the concept of characterization or character development.

The film suffers from a weak protagonist (Robert Pattinson) who has no heroic characteristics and is simply there to be an opposing voice to the real protagonist of the film, the antagonist (Christoph Waltz). Waltz is strong both as an actor and as a character in the film and ends up overshadowing the guy whom the audience wants to side with.

A weak protagonist leads the audience to identify with other, more stronger characters in the film, only to be betrayed at the end because you were after the wrong guy.

On the other hand, Rosie, the elephant needs an Oscar for best supporting actress.

Sustainable Development

During a session of the UNs Commission on Sustainable Development, the Baha’i International Community (BIC) presented the following thoughts on the topic.

The document highlights not just one, but various social components that contributes to the process. It views the issue as a “whole” rather than “parts” that needs some easy “fixing.” Here are the highlights from the document:

  • Human nature

The culture of consumerism, however, has tended to reduce human beings to competitive, insatiable consumers of goods and to objects of manipulation by the market.

  • Vision of development

It is not enough to conceive of sustainable consumption and production in terms of creating opportunities for those living in poverty to meet their basic needs.

  • Crisis in the current economic system

The unfettered cultivation of needs and wants has led to a system fully dependent on excessive consumption for a privileged few, while reinforcing exclusion, poverty and inequality, for the majority.

  • Technological development

Developing the capacity for identifying technological need and for technological innovation and adaptation—in light of societal needs and environmental constraints—will be vital to social progress.

  • Education

As a starting point, the program of education must be based on a clear vision of the kind of society that we wish to live in; and the kind of individuals that will bring this about

  • Baha’i community’s approach to cultural transformation

The cultural shifts taking place are evident in the greater capacity to carry out collective action, to see oneself as an agent of change in the community, as a humble learner, as an active participant in the generation, diffusion and application of knowledge.

Quantum Physics

Quantum physics or mechanics simply is:

the body of scientific principles which attempts to explain the behavior of matter and its interactions with energy on the scale of atoms and atomic particles.

That being said, its basic principals has allowed physicists to experiment and explore a number of topics that are both intriguing and credibly incredible. Many theories are beginning to answer, support and challenge many philosophical and theological questions such as who we are and how we got to planet earth.

Interesting? more on it soon.

Flower

This flower brings a sense of “joy” whenever I see it live. However as a picture it does not have the same effect. Though the above photo is beautifully shot, it fails to invoke a sense of joy and presents itself to me as a work of art and beauty.

However, as I write about it and keep looking at it, my thoughts are changing. Why?

Hello

Everything starts with hello, so hello & welcome to my cyber abode.
